Bareback Mountain

Haha...that's the joke that we made when we went to see the show.

Brian and I went to see that movie last week once it was released. Brian couldn't resist watching that movie because it was a gay film; and I couldn't resist watching that film because of Heath Ledger!!! He's sooooo cute and sexy, cuter than Jake Gay...whatever.

The film was pretty interesting...at the beginning. It's stimulating to see both men (2 straight actos may I remind you) trying to fuck each other. Well, what else was there to do for two men in the middle of the mountain, hundred miles from destination, with a bunch of sheeps? You either fuck each other or fuck the sheeps, get it?

The kissing part was really beautiful and sexy. They were sort of in love with each other, but had to go seperate ways because it was 1963 in Wyoming. I'm not going to tell you the rest of the story because some of you might curse me to death. But what I'm trying to say is, this so called gay movie, or a movie where 2 cowboys fell in love, is so fucking cliche. It's like 2 straight people falling in love, and have to go seperate ways for some reasons, and ended up in regrets because they couldn't be together. Sounds familiar? Yeah...BORING!

"Are we too gay to enjoy this movie?" Brian asked me.

I totally agreed. The thing is this movie is about 2 gay cowboys, discovered that they were attracted to each other (or men), and had to struggle to keep their relationship alive. That is so yesterday don't you think? We've all been there done that, so move along bitch! Show us something more interesting on gay characters. We are different, so puuuhleasee...give us something new besides RuPaul! Not some boring, ordinary and shitty love story.

The fact is...Hollywood is very much dominated by straight people. The WORLD is still very much dominated by straight people. Most of them don't know much about gay love or relationships. Therefore, this movie acts like an eye opener for them. That could be the reason why Brokeback got nominated the most for the Oscars.

Another sad thing is, did you realize that most of the gay films end in tragedy? A good example is Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. Why must we see our "society" in a negative way? Why can't we be happy and merry like most "straight" movies? Instead of showing a positive side of gay people, they rather focus more on the darker side of us.

One of the critics wrote:
"This is a noble experiment, but one which has failed." - Eric Lurio, Greenwich Village Gazette.

Brokeback failed to truly express the beauty of gay relationships. It also failed to understand why 2 men (or 2 women) can actually fall in love with one another.

Suddenly, the title "Bareback" Mountain seems to sound more appropriate for this movie.

hahahaha, that's a twist. I remember I came across a few porns before which had twisted titles, even pseudonym of the porn star, like 'Tommy Cruise'.

I like Heath Ledger!! I agree with you that he's cute and sexy!! Tina likes Jake, good that, we don't have to fight.

About the movie, mmmmh, interesting. Have you seen Wedding banquet before? by the same director, done in. I wonder what drove him make this movie; 'cause in Wedding banquet, the movie focuses on their struggles/effort in getting the acceptance from the family towards their relationship – the movie has skipped the part that ‘how’s love started’ and also their daily life – they are already together and happy, but the partner loves him so much that he wishes his family can be happy too- in a way he did something which nearly jeopardized the relationship – anyway at last the movie ended happily; I guess it’s worth the while to watch this movie if you have not.

Back to Brokeback, it seems to me that the director reversed his focus on gay relationship (or ‘human relationship’ could be rather appropriate) to the period of the meeting-up (interaction/ encounter? You choose). Yes, the world is still very much dominated by straight people; to most of the people perhaps the movie would still be an eye-opener to them, and the movie was done by a straight director – but if you talk about gay-themed movies, directed by gay people, seriously I can’t remember any good ones. It is either too many sex scenes that it blurred other messages that the movie tried to convey or too predictable that you will demand ‘can we have something more interesting, other than that?’

The beauty of gay relationship – perhaps it is not an easy thing to portray and perhaps some famous directors may have the intentions but not to an extent would risk it cause the movie might turn out to be not realistic or childish – will sure be boohed by all of us. We are not that dark, we live fabulously and happily!! Anyhow I believe somebody can do the job and I look forward to it, someday.

PS: ‘Bareback mountain’ is such a good twist, perhaps it will be soon out in porn scene – in DVDs or VCDs, available at all major porn stores. Hahahahaha.

JoJo, I haven't seen Wedding Banquet. Maybe I should rent it sometime and see it. I'm sure Brian would know bout this.

Btw, Brian commented that the reason why Brokeback got so popular, since it was nominated for the most Oscars, is because of this year's election in the States. It's a way for Hollywood people to say, "fuck you Bush!" since gay marriage is still a no no in the US.

AJ Honey...show me the evidence! :P

Your comments on "Brokeback Mountain" sound like they were written by a silly 10 year old. The movie is HISTORICAL in context. It does not take place today. It is about 2 gay men in with NO money, NO education, and NO hope of changing their lives. There was no way for them to get a GED and move to San Francisco. There WERE no GEDs in those days. And they had children that they felt like they had to support, even at the expense of their own lives. That's what people did then. Yet they managed to find joy and love at Brokeback Mountain, making lemonade of the lemons they'd been handed by life. As you get older, may you be wise enough to do the same if you are presented with a lemon or two.
